the project day started around 1, with a trip to Lowe's. There, we got some lumber (four 2x6s, four 2x3s, and some lag bolt alternative screws. (this kind) )
I want to note that while grabbing lumber, my own father decided it necessary to use GLOVES while picking up LUMBER. the WEAKLING. This is like my theater tech teacher making us use gloves to do anything at all, but in that case it's more justified because god forbid a student get a splinter. My father did it on his own will! to say the least, it was terribly embarrassing being related to this guy in the lumber section.
in the bolt section, we were figuring out which length of lag bolt to get when a guy nearby asked, "what's the project?" and after some explaining, brought us to the lag bolt alternative screws. after checking out, we went home, where I started measuring the 2x6s as soon as everything was unpacked. Then I cut all four down, to fit along the wall between another wall and the windowsill. Upon bringing my newly-cut lumber upsatirs, I realized I'd need to remove the chalkboard in my office to attach the bottom 2x6 to the wall. removing a chalkboard, or at least mine, took more effort than it looked. Turns out, when attaching it, I had decided to wedge it between my desk and the supports of the office wall, with only one screw at the top. It took a while, but I eventually realized that removing some bottom supports from my desk made it sink a little, but also freed my chalkoard!
so after that, i tackled the actual attachemnt of the 2x6s onto my wall. I already had marked where the studs in the wall are, so I only had to mount them now. the hard part came from having to attach them without a second pair of hands. for the second one from the bottom, I enlisted an infrequent occurrence nowadays: my older sister. it was a lot easier with her helping to hold the peice up. Otherwise, it was me holding a 6 foot long 2x6 to the wall, level, while drilling into it and then the srews, with one hand however, that is exactily what I did after my sister left. The next two were difficult but easier: i realized I could stay in my loft use its railing to drill into the stud closest to the window. after i got all 4 onto the wall, i went to dinner with my friends. tomorrow, I have a lot of cutting to do, but also a lot of assembly, so I'm excited.
